High-ranking delegation from Mongolia visits the HSZG

Representatives from politics, education and science in Mongolia came to Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences to find out about the engineering degree courses on offer and the accommodation and living conditions of international students.

On May 21, 2026, Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) welcomed a high-ranking delegation from Mongolia to the campus in Zittau. The visit focused on the exchange of engineering courses, the study and living conditions of international students and prospects for further cooperation between the HSZG and Mongolian partners.

The delegation was made up of representatives from the Mongolian Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, the General Authority for Education, the National Institute for Educational Research, the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (GMIT) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The delegation was welcomed by HSZG Rector Prof. Dr. Alexander Kratzsch and Susanne Fentzel. The Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Sophia Keil and Prof. Dr. Małgorzata Maćkowiak and other representatives of the university also took part in the subsequent discussions and presentations.

The guests included Dendeviin Terbishdagva, former acting Prime Minister of Mongolia and former Mongolian Ambassador to Germany, and Prof. Dr. Battsengel Baatar, Rector of the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology.

We are delighted that representatives from central ministries, educational and research institutions in Mongolia have visited our university. We would like to thank our guests for their interest and the open exchange. The visit underlines the fact that Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is also perceived internationally as a reliable partner in education, science and research. I am particularly pleased that we were able to explore together how we can further develop cooperation between Saxony and Mongolia in the future.

Prof. Dr. Alexander Kratzsch, Rector of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences

The program included a visit to the high-voltage laboratory of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science'. There, the guests were given an insight into the university's teaching and research infrastructure. Afterwards, the delegation visited the student hall of residence on the Mandau to find out about housing and leisure opportunities for students in Zittau.

As part of a joint exchange in the University Library, representatives of the HSZG presented study programs in the fields of electrical engineering, mechatronics and mechanical engineering. Among other things, study opportunities in the fields of energy technology, automation, intelligent power grids and modern production and manufacturing technologies were presented. In addition, the University Language Centre, the services offered by the Department of Studies and International Affairs and support services for international students were presented.

Another focus of the talks was on the language preparation of international students. They were shown ways in which prospective students can be prepared for studying in Germany. In this context, the university also presented the courses offered by the Studienkolleg of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.

The participants also exchanged views on prospects for further cooperation between the HSZG and Mongolian partner institutions. Among other things, possibilities for academic exchange and the further development of existing contacts in the field of engineering were discussed.

The visit built on the existing cooperation between the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology. Since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in 2023, several reciprocal visits and technical discussions have taken place. The current visit continued this exchange and provided an opportunity to deepen existing contacts.

The discussions continued in an informal atmosphere over lunch in the university canteen afterwards. The visit gave the guests a comprehensive impression of the study conditions at the HSZG - from modern laboratories and support services to student accommodation and the infrastructure close to the campus.

The university would like to thank everyone involved for the open exchange and looks forward to continuing the cooperation with its Mongolian partners.

Nothing is impossible. At Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, we try to open doors and create opportunities. This is exactly what international cooperation thrives on.
