Workshop "Regional identities"

Further develop regional marketing and development concepts to sharpen and strengthen regional identities.

In Saxony, we are experiencing increasing regional polarization. The underlying cause is people’s migration patterns. While a few growth hubs benefit from massive inflows of migrants, most cities and counties in Saxony are suffering from out-migration to the regions that are thriving. These migration patterns—which are difficult to explain purely in economic terms—can lead to a demographic vicious cycle if a sense of “being left behind” spreads throughout a region.
Against this backdrop, so-called “retention factors” are of fundamental importance for the demographic stabilization of a region. In addition to personal factors such as family ties and friendship networks, these also include “soft” regional factors that can be summarized under the term “regional identity.”

Participants are asked to identify the identity anchors (
) for their respective regions, develop measures (
) to make these identity anchors “more visible” in the region, and collaboratively consider (
) which regional cooperation partners they need to achieve this.
