Islam has long been part of everyday life in many German cities. However, where there is little or no contact between Muslim and non-Muslim people, there is still a lot of uncertainty and reservations. On the other hand, the phenomenon of Islamism or Salafism poses a serious threat to coexistence in a pluralistic society.
The course deals with various aspects of Islamic life in Germany and addresses the following questions and topics, among others:
- Fundamentals of the religion of Islam
- Forms of expression and changes in Muslim religiosity in the context of migration
- Experiences of discrimination and exclusion
- Differentiation between the terms Islam and Islamism
- Content and forms of expression of Islamist ideologies
- The appeal of Salafism for young people
- Patterns of Islamophobia and gray areas between public discourse on Islam, "criticism of Islam" and the use of Islamophobic motifs
This is not just a series of lectures. The course will involve you interactively and the content will be adapted to your questions.
