Dear students and staff of the Faculty of Social Sciences,
In his short stories, Alexander Puchtler takes an unvarnished look at a world that is rarely visible: Complex facilities for the disabled. Places that promise protection - and yet are often characterized by rigid structures, control and quiet violence.
The author himself worked in this system for many years. His texts are based on real experiences and encounters. To preserve anonymity, they are condensed into literary form - but their core is true. They tell of people whose lives are managed. Of employees who are caught between care and excessive demands. And of a society that would rather not see this parallel world.
This reading is not an indictment of individuals, but a critical examination of ways of thinking and acting that normalize heteronomy. At the same time, the stories quietly open up spaces of hope. They ask: What could a different way of living together look like?
The reading is supplemented by discussion phases and invites people to reflect together on responsibility, dignity and humanity.
Students and staff of the faculty are cordially invited to take part in this reading and the subsequent discussion.
