The Innova.GEIST research and knowledge transfer project examines social innovations as an essential component of sustainable regional development in Lausitz, closely intertwined with technical innovations. Through this project, we aim to contribute to a better understanding of innovation corridors in industrial regions and to explore their significance for Lausitz, a region undergoing structural change. Using collaborative research methods, we are testing inclusive innovation strategies with industry partners from the technology sector and exploring the connections between social and technological innovation practices.
Our research focus is particularly on the barriers and (unseen) opportunities for addressing social innovations and identifying them within technical innovation processes. The starting point is concrete regional needs (such as skilled workers, corporate culture, education, and sustainable development) within technical-economic and social innovation processes.
The position involves the development and application of transdisciplinary research on social and technological innovation processes, specifically the following tasks:
- Literature review on innovations in rural regions undergoing structural change,
- Developing and conducting exploratory, qualitative field research in Upper Lusatia to link social and technical innovation cases with existing practice partners,
- Adapting social science research for practice partners,
- Preparing and supporting the transfer phase,
- Participation in science communication (transfer workshops, podcasts),
- Scientific publication.
The following knowledge and skills are required
- A completed academic degree, preferably in the Social Sciences or related disciplines such as economics, geography, regional planning, design, or art history,
- solid knowledge of the Social Sciences,
- knowledge (research and/or practical application) of regional transformations and social innovations in regions undergoing structural change or rural industrial regions
- Project experience in interdisciplinary teams,
- academic interest in research and innovation issues related to socio-ecological regional development,
- Interest in the transfer of theory to practice and the development of experimental formats,
- Experience and/or knowledge in science communication—or, at the very least, curiosity.
In addition, the following are desirable:
- initial experience in carrying out research projects and in academic work, including through student or research assistant positions,
- Experience in documenting, presenting, and formatting scholarly contributions, as well as in developing training materials,
- Methodological experience: collaborative research with partners in the field,
- Experience in coordinating and collaborating with partners outside the academic sphere,
- experience with and curiosity about science communication,
- Research and publication experience (in the field of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research),
- Project and professional experience.

Salary is based on pay grade 13 of the TV-L collective bargaining agreement, provided the candidate meets the personal qualifications. The primary place of employment is Görlitz.
