Studying is more than just studying a degree program

Opening of the Center for Interfaculty Teaching (ZfL).

The Center for Interfaculty Teaching (ZfL), founded on 1 January 2020, bundles interfaculty ZfL modules in a central institution. This structural measure in accordance with the University Development Plan 2025 will help to improve the clarity of module selection from the wealth of cross-faculty courses on offer for students at the HSZG.

The ceremonial opening of the ZfL took place on January 27, 2020 with around 70 invited guests and guests of honor from Saxon universities, the Dresden Chamber of Industry and Commerce, regional companies and interested members and former members of the HSZG. The aim of the event was to introduce the ZfL as a new organizational unit of the university and to show the further development path to its full establishment in the university structure.

Introductory remarks by Rector Prof. Friedrich Albrecht were followed by a presentation by Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs Prof. Christa Maria Heidger, in which she reiterated the necessity of establishing the center. In addition, those present were able to listen to words of welcome and impulses from the student representative Ms. Nora Terlunen, the head of the languages department at the ZfL Ms. Michaela Heidig, former mayor Prof. Peter Dierich and the head of the IHK, GS Zittau office Mr. Matthias Schwarzbach. The contributions showed which tasks and functions, but also which expectations will be placed on the ZfL in the future. In his speech as ZfL Director, Prof. Fritz Jochen Schmidt explained the structure and strategic direction of the center and highlighted the benefits and opportunities that the ZfL offers, especially for students.

Mr. Simmchen provided a musical backdrop to the program with a selection of international pieces. At the subsequent get-together with catering from Engemanns, the recently awarded Zittau Company of the Year, and a further discussion round, the participants had another opportunity to exchange ideas and pave the way for the desired cooperation on an intentional level.

We would also like to thank the Friends of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences for their financial support of the event.

The extraordinarily positive feedback from the IHK Zittau, the University of Excellence Dresden and within the HSZG also gives us hope for the further development of the ZfL.
