CircEcon research cluster sets standards for sustainable production and climate compatibility
Research center of four universities for a greenhouse gas-neutral circular economy
at the “Schwarze Pumpe” site
Saxony is a unique research and growth region in the fields of materials and production technologies as well as process and recycling engineering. This expertise will also benefit the Lausitz region through funding measures aimed at structural transformation. In the CircEcon – Green Circular Economy – research cluster, the four universities—TU Dresden, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, TU Chemnitz, and the University of Applied Sciences Zittau/Görlitz—will collaborate to develop groundbreaking solutions to the challenges of the circular economy and strengthen Lusatia’s competitiveness. This is because the circular economy is considered a key issue for the sustainable transformation of industry and society.
With the inaugural meeting of the CircEcon steering committee, the University Executive Boards of TU Dresden, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, the Technical University of Chemnitz, and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences have taken the decisive step of establishing a joint scientific institution to provide a significant impetus for the region’s sustainable development. The planned location of the research center is the Schwarze Pumpe Industrial Park. The federal and state governments are funding the project with 108 million euros.
