Engineering education conference in Bremen: six contributions from the HSZG presented
In May 2019, the 14th Engineering Education Regional Conference 2019 of the Ingenieurpädagogische Wissenschaftsgesellschaft (IPW) took place.
Participants were treated to a varied program on the topic “Technical Education in the Context of Digitalization/Automation—Trends, Opportunities, and Perspectives.” The program explored this topic through current research and teaching presentations, reports, and illustrative real-world examples. Staff members from Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences successfully presented the following contributions in the form of lectures and posters:
- Augmented Reality: From Pepper’s Ghost (1862) to the Sword of Damocles (1968) to the Hololens 2 (2019) and Its Application in Technical Education by Daniel Winkler, Thomas Müller, and Ronny Freudenreich
- “Augmentation versus Reduction”—Possibilities and Opportunities for Didactic Reduction through Augmented Reality in Technical Education by Daniel Winkler
- Digital Competencies in Higher Education—10,000 Steps in the Footsteps of a “Picker” by Sophia Keil, Kevin Mühlan, Daniel Winkler, and Fabian Lindner
- The Flipped Classroom in Engineering Education: The Example of Design Theory by Thomas Müller and Bernd Bellair
- Thermo-Active – A Teaching-Learning Concept for Active Comprehension Assessment and Differentiated Performance Support by Tobias Fieback, Rhena Wulf, Ronny Freudenreich, Timon Umlauft, and Hans-Joachim Kretzschmar
- Thermopr@ctice – An Interactive Learning System for Solving Practice Problems with MATHCAD by Hans-Joachim Kretzschmar, Ines Jähne, Sebastian Herrmann, Mareike Schneider, and Ronny Freudenreich
In summary, in addition to well-researched academic presentations, the conference offered the opportunity to think outside the box and discuss topics such as national and international approaches to engineering education, the integration of digital teaching and learning elements, the importance of in-person instruction, etc. and, furthermore, to further develop one’s own networks.
