The Health and Environment Days 2021 will run until 11.06.2021.
Studying digitally and working from home has an impact on our behavior - and not always the best. The lack of commuting to study and work leads to a lack of exercise. The lack of student communities, closed canteens and pubs are also changing our everyday eating habits. These changes can have an impact on our health. Good is that these can be compensated for.
This year, the Health and Environment Days (GUt) 2021 are focusing on offers related to this compensation. Activities such as the tried-and-tested pedometer challenge and the newly developed fitness trail in Zittau's Weinau district will promote active exercise in everyday life and in the fresh air. The lecture "Conscious eating in the home office", the seminar "Fit@HomeOffice" and the video "Healthy eyes at the computer workstation" also focus on aspects relating to working within your own four walls.
The Health and Environment Days (GUt) are part of the MACH MIT environmental management program and are supported by numerous members of the university, the city of Zittau, companies, associations and initiatives.
With the GUt, we want to make a contribution to an intact environment in which we can live healthily and feel good. Negative environmental influences have an impact on our mental and physical well-being: stress, an unbalanced diet, physical and mental strain are just some of them.
We counter this with activities that are fun, reduce stress, are easy to integrate into everyday life and have a positive impact on our physical and mental well-being - in other words, on our health and healthy environment.
Our pedometer challenge, which has been running since 2016, is a friendly competition between university staff, the Zittau city administration and students. We want to motivate people to walk between home, nursery, school and the university, to do their shopping without a car and to be more conscious - in the truest sense of the word - about their everyday lives. Taking short walking breaks, climbing stairs and going for walks can help. Walking can replace the car in many places, which in turn minimizes exhaust and greenhouse gas emissions, protects our environment and promotes our health.
From Friday, June 4, 1 p.m., it's time to count your steps for a week. They are competing: Staff teams from Zittau City Council and Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and our students for their faculties. As last year, the Rectorate of the HSZG and the Lord Mayors of the Zittau and Görlitz campuses and their teams will face each other in the special competition.
Last year, , the city of Zittau came out on top. So now to all HSZG participants: Get out your running shoes! It smells like revenge!

Review 2020:
In cooperation with HSG Turbine (university sports club), one of Zittau's most renowned sports clubs, a fitness course was created for the first time in Zittau's Weinau. All that is needed to complete the course is a smartphone (for photos and a stopwatch), a small object as a baton and a team partner. The individual stations on the course are marked by five red stones.
Weinaupark, also known as Weinau for short, is a park on the eastern outskirts of Zittau. Weinaupark is also home to the Weinaupark Stadium, which was built in 1915 and has been reconstructed several times and is the venue for numerous sporting events.
When: 07.06. to 11.06.2021
