First boiler attendants at IPM

Shortly before Easter, Mr. Klette and Mr. Braun successfully completed their training to become boiler operators. Both colleagues work in the IPM, Department of Measurement Technology/Process Automation, under the direction of Prof. Kratzsch as part of the research project funded by the European Union and the Free State of Saxony “Highly Transient Thermal Energy Storage System for Plant-Friendly and Energy-Efficient Flexibilization of Thermal Power Plants,” which is funded by the European Union and the Free State of Saxony, working on the development and experimental qualification of thermal energy storage systems.

As part of the approval process for the THERESA test facility at the Zittau Power Plant Laboratory, further training for the scientific staff was required, particularly to ensure the safe operation of the THERESA test facility and, thereby, safety at the Zittau Power Plant Laboratory.As part of the three-week training course, knowledge regarding the safe operation, maintenance, and servicing of steam boiler systems and their safety-related equipment was taught both theoretically and practically. In addition, instruction was provided on legal and regulatory requirements, such as the Product Safety Act, the Pressure Equipment Directive, and the Technical Rules for Operational Safety.

Mr. Klette and Mr. Braun successfully passed the written and oral exams as well as the practical training component.

This means that the entire university now has two qualified points of contact for all matters related to steam boiler systems.
