Impressions of the 10th Historik Mobil

The HSZG also took part in the major event along the route of the historic steam railroad for the third time.

For the 10th time, historic vehicles were in continuous operation over the weekend on the rail lines and roads of the Zittau Mountains.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science has been collaborating with Sächsisch-Oberlausitzer-Eisenbahn GmbH for several years. One result of this very constructive collaboration is the transformation of the Zittau-Süd station into a training signal box, which is available to students of control and safety technology for particularly hands-on training.

Mr. Hornung—a research assistant in the “Railway-Specific Control and Safety Technology” project—with the active support of two LST students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, staffed Zittau-Süd Station to make it operational on both days of the “Historik Mobil” event, thereby ensuring that railway operations could be conducted safely in accordance with the historical operating regulations of the 1960s. Given that thousands of passengers once again passed through this station (the event had already attracted 25,000 visitors in 2015), this extraordinary commitment also served as an effective way to provide information about the railway-specific educational opportunities offered by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
