Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (HSZG) is located in the heart of Europe in the immediate vicinity of Poland and the Czech Republic. It offers around 3,000 students attractive and future-oriented courses in engineering, natural sciences, social sciences, economics and cultural studies.
As a family-friendly university of applied sciences with around 500 employees and other non-university research institutions based at both locations, the HSZG stands for the integration of applied research into teaching, for a networked regional transfer of knowledge and technology and for the promotion of young scientists. The HSZG is seeking to fill the position of
Rector (f/m/d)
to be filled. The Rector is elected for a term of office of 5 years. Re-election for a second term of office is permitted.
Pursuant to Section 87 subsection 3 of the Saxon Higher Education Act, anyone who is a professor at a university or has completed a university education and, on the basis of several years of leading professional activity, in particular in science, art, business, administration or the administration of justice, can be expected to be able to cope with the tasks of the office can be appointed rector.
The tasks include further developing the university on the basis of the University Development 2030+ concept and thus contributing to securing its performance and increasing its attractiveness as a business and science location, qualifying academic specialists, actively shaping social processes for long-term structural change in the three-country region of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic and representing the interests of the university in exchange with politics, administration, other universities and the public. An excellent reputation in teaching and research is required to fulfill the duty of representation towards the university.
Leadership and management experience in a research or university context is required. Extensive experience in strategic transformation processes is expected.
We are looking for a communicative personality with high social competence and appreciative, cooperative and integrative leadership behavior. In addition, the position requires very good skills in cooperating with partners from business, science or administration.
Leadership experience in academic self-administration as well as experience in working with university committees or in the organization of university operations is an advantage.
The HSZG aims to increase the proportion of women in management positions and therefore expressly encourages women to apply. Women will be given preference when filling the position if they are equally qualified.

Due to the nature and scope of the duties, the position is not suitable for part-time work.
