Examinations in the Corona semester

Does the limited number of participants in the examination rooms increase the ability to concentrate?

The (game) rules

During the re-examination in the Economics module, the new examination procedures at the Faculty of Managerial and Cultural Studies were implemented for the first time. The day before the exam, the lecturer prepares rooms 0.13/ 0.15 in the GIV building. The tables are set up so that each person has a minimum area of 3m² and at least 1.5m distance to the next person. Each seat is numbered and disinfected in accordance with the regulations.

When you arrive on campus for the exam, ...

There are a few things to bear in mind on the day of the exam. No one is allowed to stay on campus for any length of time before the start of the exam, especially in groups. If possible, candidates should enter the building individually and with mouth and nose protection. The minimum distance of 1.50 m must always be maintained. Once students have entered the examination room, they can sit down in one of the numbered seats and finally take off their face mask. Then it's time to take a deep breath - it's better without a mask.

Why are all the seats numbered?

Why the seat numbers like in the theater? They are necessary in order to be able to trace any chains of infection that may occur. Before the test, all those present therefore enter their names in a contact list. Their name, telephone number, e-mail address and seat number are requested here. Then we can get started. The lecturer hands out the exams, wearing a face mask of course, and the clock starts ticking. The room is quiet. The number of people per room is limited to 20, so there is less murmuring about difficult tasks or the hissing of water bottles when they are opened.

So, how did it go?

That's the best question to ask the examinees. Julian Drauschke is studying health care management in his 2nd semester and has just finished his economics re-examination.

How was your first exam under the new conditions Julian?
"The exam was difficult, but unfortunately I can't blame that on the changed exam conditions. Keeping to the new rules wasn't too bad."

And what does Julian's fellow student Katrin (name changed) think? Does she see the exam conditions as a hindrance?

"No, I can't say that. As the face mask can be removed during the exam, it doesn't bother me. The fact that the number of people in the rooms was limited is also not a hindrance. It was quieter and I was able to concentrate better."

And adds:

"I'm glad that I can reject the results of upcoming exams if necessary. It takes a lot of pressure off."

Students have a Senate regulation from 29.04.2020 to thank for this option.

Flexibilization of the examination process for the summer semester 2020

is the name of the new regulation, which states

"HSZG students will be given the opportunity to decide whether to accept the examination result for the examinations of the summer semester 2020."

So if the student is dissatisfied with his/her result, he/she can submit an application for non-acceptance up to one month after the announcement of the examination result. Unfortunately, this regulation does not apply to re-examinations, repeat examinations or academic misconduct. Nevertheless, this regulation is fair and sends a clear signal from the Senate. Solidarity and clear solutions help to ensure that no one is disadvantaged by the "Corona- SoSe 2020". The HSZG is once again showing that situational action is a strength and I am sure that you will all pass this examination phase with flying colors.
