The Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft (Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany) hosted the 4th meeting of university vice presidents in Germany. The theme of the meeting was "Socially relevant transfer".
On November 13, the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft hosted the 4th Meeting of Vice Presidents of Universities in Germany at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW Berlin). The event was aimed exclusively at vice presidents, vice rectors and rectorate representatives for transfer - and related fields such as third mission, social responsibility, start-ups, outreach and innovation. The theme of the meeting was "Socially relevant transfer".
According to the Stifterverband, the event focused on four central questions: What opportunities and challenges does an expanded understanding of transfer offer for the strategic development of universities? How can the (supposed) gap between business and technology-related transfer and social transfer be bridged in a mutually complementary way? How can a university-wide transfer culture be developed that is specifically geared towards societal needs and challenges? How can universities develop the topic of socially relevant transfer as a potential profiling dimension for themselves?
After the opening by the Vice President for Research, Transfer and Science Communication at HTW Berlin (Prof. Dr. Stefanie Molthagen-Schnöring) and representatives of the Stifterverband, 10-minute "Lightning Talks" with Q&A (Question & Answer) provided insights into different or joint university perspectives - here with three "Lightning Talks" from Bavaria, Thuringia and Saxony. Prof. Dr Sophia Keil, Vice President for Research, Transfer and International Affairs at the HSZG, spoke on behalf of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences.
Further lightning talks were given by Prof. Dr. Thomas Pertsch, Vice President for Research and Innovation (Friedrich Schiller University Jena), and Prof. Dr. Thomas Stumpp, Vice President for Economics (Munich University of Applied Sciences). Embedded in the event were program items of the Stifterverband such as the "Open Space".
According to the Stifterverband, the Open Space itself is a participatory and open format, combined with sufficient opportunities for exchange and networking. As part of the Open Space, the topics are introduced by the participants themselves at the beginning. This means that the program is only created at the beginning of the event. An experienced moderator guides the guests through the day. This time, the Open Space focused on the event topic "Socially relevant transfer".
