As part of the "Diversity as a Strength 2" project (funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research), various proven and new study-related support services have been launched at the Faculty of Social Sciences. These are organized and carried out by the faculty's study scout. In February and March 2017, the first step was to develop study-related services and support based on the identified needs and to recruit new student advisors for all degree programs as well as for advising pupils and incoming first-semester students. The students on offer at badvise, accompany and support new students at the start of their studies, in organizing their studies and in everyday student life with the aim of clarifying initial questions, reducing uncertainties and providing orientation for studying and living in Görlitz.

The volunteer students in the program take part in various workshops and qualification measures as part of the preparation in order to be trained for their involvement in the program. On April 7 and 8, 2017, the new advisors were welcomed in a two-day opening workshop, dealt with typical questions and difficulties before and during the start of their studies, got to know the advisory and support services offered by the faculty, university and external help and got to know the structure of the university and faculty, the responsible contact persons and their areas of responsibility as well as project-specific features in various workshop phases. In further workshops in May and June 2017, counseling skills for student peer-to-peer counseling will be developed and sharpened and frequently occurring problematic accompanying phenomena of studying will be examined and studied in more detail.

In addition, the 6th Long Night of Short Academic Papers took place at the Faculty of Social Sciences on April 5, 2017. In an interactive lecture, around 50 students explored the "psychology of procrastination" - specifically the mechanisms, reasons and coping strategies of procrastinating behavior. Afterwards, the students were able to engage in an intensive self-exploration phase in the form of station work to develop personal goals and a framework of meaning for a study-related project or their studies themselves, become aware of their motivation and derive concrete actions and planning steps for everyday study and self-organization. The offer was developed, accompanied and moderated by students from the "Students advise students" program. There was also the opportunity to apply the content of the lecture in an intensive workshop on the topic of "Motivation and procrastination" and to exchange strategies, techniques and coping options and to develop new ideas and solutions for dealing with procrastinating behavior together with other affected students.

The study-related workshop is one of the new study-related offers in the summer semester 2017. In addition to an open, group-based supervision (collegial reflection on student roles, phenomena and problematic topics of studying) and the purely student-organized support offer "SALON" (self-help for study and life issues for students), there will be two further workshops on the topics of "Learning during studies / learning techniques / learning types" and "Self- and study organization, dealing with stress", for which interested and / or affected students are welcome to register.
