Robotics internship

Five students on a voluntary robotics internship at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences

Five pupils from Christian Weise-Gymnasium Zittau and Anne Augustum Gymnasium Görlitz used a few days of their summer vacation to visit the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. There they wanted to learn how to program a robot. Laboratory engineer Schreiter is happy to supervise students on such occasions. "So far, the robot has only been taught to drive in a labyrinth of walls. Students from Bautzen, Löbau and Zittau had previously programmed it. Among other things, it was demonstrated at the final round of the 'Neisse-Elektro' electrical engineering Olympics," says Schreiter.

During the summer vacations, the task was to follow a black line. The company ATN Hölzel GmbH from Oppach supported this project. One pupil says: "At first it was difficult to program the task. But it became more and more fun". His classmate said "It's nice to see if the program works." Small problems also caused the students problems "Sometimes we had to set the motors faster and faster. But then we realized that the battery was empty." Overall, the four students and the pupil had a lot of fun. "There was a lot to try out and tinker with." Schreiter was delighted with the success: "The pupils got to grips with the programming in a short space of time." As a bonus, the pupils were able to solder a small electronic cube. They commented: "Soldering was a nice change."
