by Rick Hübel, 11th grade student.
As an 11th grade student, I used my two-week internship to gain an insight into studying "Business and Computer Science" at the Zittau - Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. I spent my time at the university's training center at Obermarkt. The main task of my internship was to tackle my own software project. This involved going through all the important phases from planning to development. At the beginning, I wrote down the project idea, followed by a business model canvas and a use case. These are particularly important for successful planning. The idea is a program that calculates the security of a PC by querying the user in the form of a score. Once the planning part was done, we started creating the software. Java was chosen as the programming language and JavaFX for the user interface. It was easy to click together an interface in the "Scene Builder Gluon" and implement the functions later. Unfortunately, the two weeks of practical training were not enough for a complete implementation, so that it still has to be finished or can be further developed.
I particularly liked the fact that the focus was on practice. I was able to be creative and had a lot of fun doing it. The whole working atmosphere was very pleasant. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The employees introduced me to their projects and gave me interesting insights. The lunch talks were also exciting, where new project ideas from employees were presented and discussed. My internship supervisor took a lot of time for me. For example, he explained the study opportunities at the university in detail and helped me to implement my project. I was able to make nice contacts and learn a lot of new things.
