How to harmonize body and mind despite working from home.
No matter where you look at the moment, whether Facebook, Instagram or YouTube, even parents are talking about it. Healthy eating, cooking for yourself, doing sport, me-time...
You also hear and read the word detox more and more. But what is this detox anyway? Detox comes from the English word for removing physiologically or medically toxic substances. This may sound a bit pretentious, but it's actually quite simple. In the medical field, it's simply about cleansing your body and thus gaining new life energy.
We students need this energy, especially in the current situation, so that the ceiling doesn't fall on our heads and we can still continue our studies. We are also dependent on your support for this.
You would receive a lot of love and thanks from us if you could spare five minutes of your precious time to complete our survey to answer our survey.
Not only would you be doing us a favor and reaping positive karma, but you would also be helping the local ice skating rink in Bautzen, which will be better able to adapt their products to your needs. So here we go!
Today I would like to introduce you to two different types of detox. I have already tried both myself and realized how good they are for me. On the one hand, you can rid your body of all accumulated toxins and cleanse it through a detox diet. In my self-experiment, I opted for the 'hardest' option and only ate smoothies and soup for three days. I also did at least one hour of sport every day.
As I'm currently feeling a bit under the weather, I went for an hour's walk or jog every day. Of course, you can also do a home workout here. There are plenty of different instructions on Instagram or YouTube.
To enhance the effect, it is important to drink sufficient fluids in the form of water or herbal tea. However, you should avoid caffeine, i.e. coffee, green and black tea, during this time. My much-loved matcha tea was therefore also out during these three days. To get my circulation going in the morning, I have since gotten into the habit of drinking half a liter of lemon water. As I'm still very sleepy in the morning, I simply squeeze half a lemon into a large glass the night before and fill it up with tap water. I wouldn't recommend using sparkling water for this amount, as you should drink the half liter in as little time as possible - in other words, ex and gone.
But now to the interesting part. A few days beforehand, I collected recipes on Pinterest that I wanted to try out over the three days. One was a detox vegetable soup. Since I - like many of you - only cook for myself thanks to corona, the soup was sufficient for lunch all three days, so I only made fresh smoothies in the morning and evening.
You need:
I have to say, at first I was a little put off by this recipe, as I'm not a particularly big fan of celery stalks or fennel. But lo and behold, the soup tasted fantastic and radiated a soothing warmth in my body.
As tastes differ, I've put together an overview of what you can mix into your smoothie. I have made a conscious decision to drink a green smoothie at least once a day. So I always had one with just fruit in the morning. When mixing, you can really go wild and use your favorite fruits, because it should be good for us and taste good. For example, I love mangoes, pineapple and kiwis in my smoothie. So there are no limits to your creativity here. If you like it a little spicier, you can also use ginger. This gives the whole thing a little extra zing.
What you should definitely bear in mind is that you should think about which ingredients you need for your three-day detox cure beforehand. Not only because you shouldn't go shopping every day in the current situation, but also to avoid having food and sweets at home that are harmful and therefore unnecessary temptations during the detox. If you are worried that the ingredients will no longer be fresh enough, I also have a great trick for you.
Simply cut the ingredients you have chosen for your smoothies into medium-sized pieces, pack them in a Tupperware container and freeze them. This way you can prepare a super tasty detox smoothie bowl quickly and easily in the morning. Simply put the frozen ingredients in a blender, add some liquid and tada - a ready-made smoothie bowl. Because don't forget, the eye eats too, especially during a detox.
I have to say, I imagined the three days would be much harder, with headaches and constant hunger. But luckily that wasn't the case for me at all. As soon as I felt hungry, I just drank some water or tea. As I don't usually drink very much, I was able to make sure that I was drinking sufficient fluids. All in all, it was easy to just eat liquids and the exercise was really good too. Since then, I've simply felt much fitter and more able to keep going.
I have made a firm commitment to myself to eat according to these detox tips one day a week in the future. Even when Corona is over and we can get back to our usual routine, it's not difficult to do this once a week. Soup is quick to make and smoothies are also quick and easy to prepare and great to take with you to university or the office, for example. You can add as much variety as you like and simply prepare and enjoy a soup in the evening when you are at home and have time to cook, and drink a smoothie to take with you at lunchtime.
The second type of detox doesn't require as much advance planning, but has a similar effect. Here, however, it is about the physiological area, i.e. our brain and our feelings. I've noticed that since the lockdown, I've been spending far too much time glued to my cell phone or looking at pointless things on the internet. More and more I thought to myself "Oh, how cool does that look! I need something like that too.", "Why can't I cook so well?", "Why does everyone else have such a beautiful apartment and I just have chaos?", "Why can't I do so much DIY?" and so on. All negative thoughts that I don't normally have in my everyday life, as I don't have much time to hang out on the internet.
Through my previous research on detoxing, I also came across the part where you try to use as little social media as possible. Please don't get me wrong, social media is somehow part of all our lives. It's just as much a part of mine, otherwise I wouldn't be writing this post for you. Especially now, we need this technology to stay in touch with our loved ones and not go crazy. But I've realized for myself that it's just become too much and too unhealthy lately. I have a great apartment and I might not be able to prepare my food as well as all the other Instagram bloggers, but it still tastes fantastic and is usually even healthy.
At the beginning, I thought about what little things I could do without social media and fall back on traditional media. But you know me, I always need it to the extreme. So one day without social media!!!
As I didn't just want to do without social media, but also without my laptop and my cell phone, I decided to carry out my experiment on a Saturday. If you want to follow my example, you can of course choose any other day of the week. However, I always have lectures via Skype during the week and therefore can't do without it on these days.
So here we go. It actually starts with setting the alarm clock. Rather atypical on a Saturday, but I didn't want to miss this experience. So I went to the attic and got an analog alarm clock down. Instead of watching the news in bed, I now had to get up and go to the letterbox to catch the newspaper before my parents (they live in the same house, but we have separate apartments and don't really see each other due to the current situation). So what would otherwise have been a half-hour Saturday breakfast turned into a break of almost 1.5 hours. Afterwards, I automatically wanted to reach for my cell phone to check my messages. Fortunately, I had the foresight to switch it off the night before. Yes, I suddenly had a lot of time on my hands and had to think about what to do with it - because I couldn't call anyone, after all, who has a landline phone these days? I was lucky with the weather, so I treated myself to a long walk and discovered that there were still many new places to discover in my neighborhood. As I had my camera with me, I simply played tourist in my own city - unfortunately without a typical coffee break. I had it at home on my balcony. Ok, I could spend a good day without any kind of digital media. But what do I do in the evening without Netflix? First, I cooked my favorite meal and made myself comfortable on my balcony by candlelight with a bottle (or two) of wine. While I was eating, I remembered that I had been given a book by my parents for my last birthday. The next time I looked up from my book, it was already past midnight.
So guys, let's get down to business. It's super easy to do without digital media and therefore social media for a day or two. Especially as everything revolves around corona at the moment and you can't really process it any more. However, I wouldn't want to go without it for any longer as I would really miss the contact with my family and friends in the long run. Nevertheless, I have to say that it was really good to put my phone, Instagram and Facebook to one side for a day and clear my head again. I think it's important for us all not to sink into the mire of social media - especially now when we have so much time for it. It's better to pick up a book or be creative in some other way. You'll get a lot more out of it.
I hope you enjoyed my post and can take a few things with you into your everyday life or try out the experiments for yourself.
Feel free to leave me some suggestions and feedback and please don't forget to take part in the survey.
See you next time. Keep your chin up and stay healthy. #stayhome
