The performance comparison is prepared and carried out every year in cooperation with the Saxon Education Agency, Regional Office Bautzen, and the chemistry department of our university.
The five best teams of students who made it through the first stage of the benchmarking competition in the grammar schools competed for the best possible ranking in chemical calculations and experimental tasks in the laboratory. This year, student teams from the following grammar schools qualified for the final round: Philipp-Melanchthon-Gymnasium Bautzen, Schiller-Gymnasium Bautzen (two teams), Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Löbau and Friedrich-Schleiermacher-Gymnasium Niesky.
In the end, the team from Niesky was just ahead of the students from Bautzen (Melanchthon) and Löbau. In the end, however, all the pupils could feel like winners, because the joy of scientific work and experimentation was always in the foreground.
After the award ceremony and presentation of prizes to all teams, a chemistry show lecture with numerous interesting experiments was held for the students and guests. The chemical background of the experiments was also explained to the audience.
A big thank you goes - in addition to the participating students and teachers - to all colleagues of the chemistry department who contributed to the success of the exciting event.
In addition to the Saxon Education Agency (Bautzen regional office) and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, the event was supported by the German Chemical Industry Association (VCI) and the German Chemical Society (GDCh).
