We say thank you!

The Rectorate looks back on a year of university life under pandemic conditions. In the video, the Rector thanks everyone involved for their commitment and solidarity.

The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences says thank you! Because it has had an unusual year. The shutdown of all public life to contain the coronavirus pandemic a year ago came suddenly and was drastic for every member of society.

This was also the case for the Rectorate under Rector Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch, who started working together in March 2020. From the very beginning, he had to face major challenges together with Vice-Rector Education and International Affairs Prof. Dr. Sophia Keil, Vice-Rector Research Prof. Dr. Raj Kollmorgen and Chancellor Karin Hollstein.

In a very short space of time, teaching had to be switched from face-to-face to online events, technical problems had to be overcome and masks for the face-to-face examinations had to be procured. And that was just the beginning.

On behalf of the entire Rectorate, the Rector would like to thank all those who have supported the restrictions and will continue to do so in a video message.

The video "We say thank you" is aimed at all students, lecturers and staff. But also to all those who have indirectly kept the university running: the employees in the hospitals, nursing, administration and retail.

"Special thanks also go to the university employees who have been working in the health authorities in Zittau, Görlitz and Bautzen since the beginning of January to help trace chains of infection," said the Rector.

Of course, this applies to all university members who are working in the public sector to make the pandemic situation in the district bearable.

No crisis without opportunity

Despite the pandemic, the Rectorate has continued to develop the university together.

In negotiations with the SMWK on the 2021-2024 target agreement, the Rector was able to negotiate feasible conditions for university development and thus create a solid foundation.

By holding online elections for the first time to determine the student representatives for the Senate, the Extended Senate and the student councils, the Chancellor was not only able to enjoy a noticeable saving in time and resources, but also an unusually high voter turnout.

With the "University for Future" program, the Vice-Rector for Education and International Affairs has initiated the process of participatory shaping of the university's future. In addition to established committees, the wider university public is now also involved in the strategic design through the implementation and use of workshops, working groups, hackathons, etc.

The Vice-Rector Research took over the project management for Saxony5, including active involvement in the application for the second funding phase, and continued the management work on the "Strategy Development" project of the Life and Technology Alliance. With the strategic further development of the "structural change" projects of the HSZG, significant steps were taken towards shaping the future of the university.
