Warm-up for the perfect start to the new phase of life

This year, too, many first-year students were wondering how to get off to the best start in college. Has it been a while since they finished high school, or were some of the subjects—now required for their degree—not necessarily their favorites? For many years now, Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has provided the perfect solution with its “Come In” Weeks. From September 9 to 27, preparatory courses in mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, and chemistry will be held to refresh high school knowledge and bring students’ understanding up to the required starting level. This way, potential difficulties in the foundational subjects at the start of your studies can be easily avoided.

In addition to studying, there are also numerous recreational activities during the “Come In” Weeks, organized by the Student Council. The program includes campus tours, a city scavenger hunt, a trip to Liberec, and a guided tour of a beer cellar in Zittau, as well as a group barbecue with the student advisors from “Students Advise Students” and representatives from the Faculty Student Committees. The “Come In” weeks are organized by the “Diversity as a Strength” project, which has been making the transition to college easier for many years and supports students throughout their studies with a variety of programs.

As a welcome gift, all course participants receive a pre-course folder for the upcoming three weeks. In addition to the timetabling schedules, first-year students will find helpful materials inside, such as a notepad, pen, and campus maps for the Zittau and Görlitz university campuses. At the start of the math preparatory course, future students were once again treated to a buffet featuring cake, rolls, coffee, and a variety of cold drinks. The “Leckere Pause” (Tasty Break) not only offers refreshments but also the opportunity to strike up conversations with other course participants. Members of the Student Advisory Service are on hand to provide tips for a successful start to their studies.

In Görlitz, too, everyone is eagerly awaiting the new students. Next Monday, September 23, participants in the math preparatory course there will receive a warm welcome. In addition to academic instruction, they’ll have the opportunity to get to know one another better during a group barbecue or a tour of the Landeskrone.
