The HSZG will provide information about its range of courses for the first time in a live stream on July 15 from 6:30 pm.
The countdown to the first Virtual College Information Evening at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences this coming Wednesday, July 15, 2020, is slowly but surely approaching zero. The “Start” button for the live stream is already flashing red in the minds of everyone currently hard at work on the preparations.
Everyone involved is working flat out to use this first-ever virtual event to convince prospective students, incoming freshmen, and their families why—especially in these times of COVID-19—Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is the right choice.
The pandemic presents us all with major challenges. But ultimately, these challenges—along with today’s digital possibilities—also offer us the chance to come together virtually across long distances. Distances that prospective students often cannot even begin to bridge due to the location-specific nature of in-person college information days. Now we can showcase our academic programs in our unique region—virtually, from a distance, so to speak. Rector Alexander Kratzsch
”Moving closer together enables live broadcasting via the HSZG YouTube channel. From 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., the HSZG broadcasts live to all devices ready to receive - whether on a PC or smartphone, on the sofa at home, at the kitchen table, in the garden, on the train or even in bed - throughout Germany and beyond.

University members take a seat on the green HSZG sofas in the live studio, answer questions from the hosts and live chat participants, and connect closely with the audience through their expert knowledge. The only social distancing required these days is to maintain a safe distance from our host duo. In keeping with the motto “By students, for students,” two students from the culture and management degree programme in the Faculty of Managerial and Cultural Studies will host the Virtual College Information Evening.
Carolin Renner and Cornelius Baier not only share a degree programme, but also a home address. The co-host duo lives together in a shared apartment. That makes it nice and easy for them to coordinate their hosting duties.
The request to host the event came quite spontaneously and unexpectedly, but it was immediately clear to us that we wanted to do this together. We want to showcase the diversity of our university, but also highlight why studying in Zittau and Görlitz is worthwhile. Here in our studio, we’ll be welcoming faculty and students who will give us a glimpse into life at the university. Two years ago, after a conversation with a professor, I, too, knew right away that I wanted to study in Görlitz. Cornelius Baier
”Why do the two of them think the HSZG is the right choice for studying, especially in these critical times surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic?
The number of students on degree courses at the HSCG rarely exceeds the size of a seminar group. In addition, there is the direct and close contact with professors and lecturers, which continues to exist even during the COVID-19 pandemic - whether on site or virtually. Carolin Renner
”In the YouTube livestream, the university provides information about its academic programs and campus life at HSZG. “We’ll discuss how the university is preparing for this year’s unique start to the semester and what our freshmen can expect from us,” explains Cornelius. “Anyone who wants to can send questions directly to the studio via live chat.” Experts from the HSZG will be available to answer questions during the broadcast or provide personalized advice simultaneously in virtual rooms.
