Deutschlandfunk reports on our new counseling service for students in difficult life situations.
In yesterday's edition of "Campus und Karriere", Deutschlandfunk radio reported on our new counseling service for students in challenging and difficult study and life situations. The interview with Sandro Hänseoth can be listened to here.
Students are increasingly confronted with stress and pressure situations. A number of different studies have come to this conclusion. For example, the study conducted at the Zittau / Görlitz University of Applied Sciences under the direction of Prof'in. Dr. Jutta Blin and Prof. Dr. Andreas Markert at the Zittau / Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was able to trace a variety of interactions between private problems and stress during studies. The Zittau / Görlitz University of Applied Sciences has reacted to this development and is the first university in Germany to establish a position in the field of university social work. The position, which is held by Sandro Hänseroth, a qualified social worker/social pedagogue (FH) and funded by the Higher Education Pact, provides the university with an independent, extracurricular and professional service for all students and other university members. In particular, this service complements the professional psychosocial counseling already available at the university from the Studentenwerk and the very low-threshold project 'Students advise students', thus systematically rounding off the existing support system at the HSZG.
University social work aims in particular to increase the quality of studies and improve the study situation of all students. This is to be achieved through a differentiated mix of proven socio-pedagogical methods that are closely related to students' lives and experiences. In addition to approaches to individual case-related help and outreach social work (e.g. in the canteens, student clubs, etc.), established methods of group, networking and extracurricular educational work should also be mentioned in this context. In addition to direct psychosocial support for students, university social work also provides relief for professors and staff in dealing with social problems or psychological stress of their students.
The service is directly affiliated with the student advisory service of the academic administration. During the lecture period, counseling is primarily available to all students and members of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences on Tuesdays to Thursdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. as well as on request and by appointment. The following channels / forms of offer can be used on request:
