The new nursing degree programme is moving forward
On November 10, 2020, the university provided information to interested representatives from hospitals and long-term care facilities in the region about the new bachelor’s degree program in Görlitz.
With its new “B.Sc. in Nursing” bachelor’s degree program, Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences aims to prepare high school graduates with university entrance qualifications for the highly complex nursing profession.
The new tuition-free degree programme was publicly unveiled on November 10, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this took place as part of a virtual event for interested representatives from hospitals and nursing facilities in the region who are open to serving as practice partners—that is, as academic training institutions—for the university.
What makes the new degree programme unique is that it is not aimed at nurses who are already professionally qualified, but rather at high school graduates. In addition, it integrates the vocational training programs in pediatric nursing, general nursing, and geriatric nursing into a single degree program, thereby complying with the requirements of the new Nursing Professions Act, which took effect nationwide in January 2020.
