With help through the 'study' phase of life

The Students Advise Students project is coming to an end - but student support is still guaranteed!

For many students, the period of study is also a phase of personal development, which is characterized by many questions, uncertainties and challenges, especially at the beginning of their studies. Who better to provide advice and support than students themselves who have had similar experiences and have already studied at the HSCG for a few semesters? This was the basic idea behind the innovative project "STUDIERENDE BERATEN STUDIERENDE (SbS)", which began almost 10 years ago at the Faculty of Social Sciences. Over the years, the student advisory service has been extended to all six faculties of the HSZG. The student advisors, supported by the study scouts of the faculties, were trained in various workshops and further training opportunities and prepared for their advisory work.

The student advisory service was part of the umbrella project "Diversity as a strength", which was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the Quality Pact 2020. With the end of the project, the "STUDIERENDE BERATEN STUDIERENDE (SbS)" advisory service also came to an end.

We would like to thank all the students and staff involved for their professional support of the Student Advisory Service over the past few years. Whether individual advice on overcoming problems and crises or support with the organization of studies, the SbS students have always been able to provide answers to pressing questions about studying at our university. Rector Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Kratzsch

Accompanying, advising and supporting first-year students from their very first day at the university was an important contribution to ensuring the success of their studies. This made it possible to pass on experience, tips and knowledge in an uncomplicated manner and at eye level, especially for students in their first semester. This was all the more important as the tendency to drop out of university prematurely is particularly high in the first two semesters. The "SbS'ers" were available to answer any questions about study content, the study process, campus and student life, internships and exams and were also happy to listen when it came to personal problems within or outside of their studies.

Support services are still available

"SbS" was able to draw on a large support network of internal and external counseling services and support projects throughout its duration and also made a major contribution to student networking, campus life and campus culture at both university locations. Despite the project coming to an end, there is no need to do without the support of students in higher semesters. The faculty student councils are happy to provide advice on organizational and content-related questions relating to the course of studies and can be contacted at any time if problems arise. The other comprehensive advisory services for students can be found here.

"Student advisory services are an important central point of contact during your studies. They provide orientation and decision-making support in personal and social matters and promote students' independence, their ability to overcome problems and to continue and successfully complete their studies even in crisis situations," emphasizes Rector Alexander Kratzsch.

If you have any questions about your studies, the faculty student councils can help you!
