The application deadline for the part-time Master's degree program "Social Gerontology" has been extended until April 1, 2021!
The Master's degree course in Social Gerontology is primarily aimed at people who are professionally involved with ageing issues (e.g. senior citizen work/policy, healthcare, nursing, health insurance companies, public administrations and ministries, HR departments, associations or companies). The Master's degree is studied alongside work and offers the opportunity to gain further qualifications based on current professional activities for taking on managerial positions.
In terms of content, the Master's focuses on a targeted integration of theory, research and practice. The course content familiarizes students scientifically with the diverse challenges of ageing societies. The course prepares students for managerial, organizational, research and evaluative activities in this field.
The course is specially tailored to the situation of working students. It begins with a carefully designed introductory phase. Subsequently, the respective semester is organized in attendance and self-study phases, which are linked by a well thought-out e-learning concept (virtual seminar) . As long as the Covid-19 pandemic continues and there is not yet sufficient protection, teaching will be carried out online at the place of study with 7-day incidence values of
> 50.

In between, eLearning will take place on Mondays from 19:00-20:30.
The Master's degree program in Social Gerontology was accredited on 16.02.2006 by the Accreditation Agency for Degree Programs in Curative Education, Nursing, Health and Social Work e.V. (AHPGS), Freiburg and reaccredited until 30.09.2021. We expect reaccreditation for a further seven years in summer 2021. This means that the degree will be recognized nationwide as a requirement for the higher civil service.
The degree course and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences are characterized by a high-quality and diverse range of courses. The informal atmosphere allows for intensive support between lecturers and students. The focus is on providing students with comprehensive support throughout the course of their studies.
