New Dual Study Program at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science will launch a new KIA (sandwich-style) degree course this coming winter semester. The KIAdirekt dual-track degree program addresses the growing demand among companies for IT specialists.

“Companies are particularly looking for computer science graduates who also possess the necessary company-specific process knowledge. Students acquire this knowledge during their studies through specialized classes / courses at HSZG and during breaks between semesters, as well as through internships and their Bachelor thesis at the respective company,” explains Prof. Frank Worlitz, Dean of the faculty, describing this unique form of collaboration with companies.

In addition to a monthly stipend, the offer of a job to graduates upon successful completion of their studies is an attractive aspect for potential applicants.

LEAG is the first company to embark on this joint initiative with HSZG and to send the first two students to Görlitz to study computer science. Prior to this, a cooperation agreement between LEAG and HSZG was signed during a ceremonial event at LEAG’s headquarters in Cottbus. The participation of two members of the Group’s Executive Board demonstrates the high priority LEAG places on the launch of this new partnership.

In the meantime, similar agreements have been concluded with a number of companies in the region. Thus, KIAdirekt could become another successful form of practice-oriented study within the “KIA family.”
