Joint statement by the Rectorate and the StuRa on dealing with Covid-19 at the HSZG.
The coronavirus pandemic poses challenges for our entire society, especially for us as an adult education institution.
At our Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, in the lecture halls, seminar rooms and laboratories,
people come together every day - students, lecturers and employees. Different age groups come together here, each with their own expectations, conditions and interests. Against the backdrop of the current pandemic, this requires particularly responsible and prudent action and leadership by the university management - involving all status groups.
For us, this means first and foremost that we consistently implement the hygiene rules at the university in accordance with the applicable Corona Protection Ordinance of the Free State of Saxony. The obligation to wear masks, social distancing rules, regular ventilation, online teaching and online meetings, working in shifts - all of this has already become part of our daily routine. Compliance with these measures is a matter of course for all members of the university in order to make our contribution to containing the general incidence of infection. We also discuss the current situation at the university in weekly web meetings with those responsible from the faculties and institutes, the student body and the university administration. Our experience to date shows that our hygiene concept is working and that we are able to keep the incidence of infection at our university well under control. So far, there have been no infections on the university campus itself.
For us, this means that we want to enable our students to study appropriately. The switch to online teaching is unavoidable where hygiene rules cannot be safely observed. Some lectures and theoretical seminars will therefore take place online. Courses in the laboratories will continue to take place in presence - in divided and staggered groups. This is particularly important for our first-year students. We are also not forgetting our lecturers, with whom we are in close contact and can therefore flexibly adapt the organization of teaching to the respective infection situation. In research and university administration, we make sure that office occupancy complies with hygiene regulations and in the research laboratories, for example, we carry out experiments in shifts.
With this approach, we are making an important contribution to social consensus. Important parts of our economy and culture are at a standstill so that other parts of the economy, education and science can be maintained. The young people we are training now will be needed in our country in a few years' time. Providing them with an adequate education and enabling our members to research, work and teach safely - this is what we are consistently and responsibly committed to under the given circumstances.

We take our responsibility for health protection seriously!
For us, this means first and foremost that we consistently implement the hygiene rules at the university, in accordance with the Corona Protection Ordinance of the Free State of Saxony in force at the time. Duty to wear masks, distance rules, regular ventilation, online teaching and online sessions, working in shifts - all this has already become part of our everyday life. Our experience to date shows that our hygiene concept works and that we are able to keep the incidence of infection at our university well under control. So far, no infections have occurred on the university grounds themselves.
We take our responsibility as an educational institution seriously!
For us, this means that we want to enable our students to study properly. The switch to online teaching is unavoidable where hygiene rules cannot be safely observed. Thus, some lectures and theoretical seminars take place online. Lectures in the laboratories will continue to take place in attendance - in divided and staggered groups. This is especially important for our first-year students. At the same time, we do not forget our lecturers, with whom we are in close contact and who can therefore flexibly adapt the organization of teaching to the respective infection incidence. With this approach, we make an important contribution to the social consensus. Important parts of our economy and culture stand still so that other parts of the economy, education and science can be maintained. The young people we are training now will be needed in our country in a few years' time.
