... and then I stayed! At two virtual university information evenings on May 18 and 20, prospective students will find out why studying at the HSZG is worthwhile.
Victoria Hohlfeld is used to being in front of the camera. The student, who assists with public relations at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, has already conducted interviews for numerous university informational videos and was part of the hosting team for the live virtual broadcast during the university’s Open House last January.
Now she is preparing for her next challenge.
“With us, you’ll learn twice as much about studying at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, because on May 18 and 20, there will be two virtual college information evenings, both live on YouTube starting at 5 p.m.,” says Victoria.
”Knowing What Prospective Students Are Interested In
The host is joined by Verena and Chris, who are just starting their studies and academic careers. “I actually wanted to leave the region, but then I decided to study at HSZG after all, ” explains Verena. On Tuesday, May 18, during the live broadcast, the freshman will explain what ultimately convinced her and how the culture and management degree programme fits into the picture. That’s when the focus will be on degree programmes in the humanities, social sciences, and business.
“On Thursday, Chris will take a seat on the guest sofa on behalf of everyone interested in engineering and natural science degree programmes,” says Victoria Hohlfeld. Whether it’s Natural and Environmental Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, computer science, or electrical engineering—the live stream on May 20 will focus on degree programmes in these fields. “There’s something for everyone who’s planning their future career in the so-called STEM field,” the host is certain. High school graduate Chris plans to study applied natural sciences at HSZG and can easily imagine asking exactly the kinds of questions that interest incoming freshmen.

Who will answer these questions? "Contact persons from the respective degree programs, representatives of the university management and administration as well as other guests are available for this purpose, who, due to the current situation, are mainly connected virtually," explains Victoria Hohlfeld.
All questions from prospective students are answered ad hoc in the YouTube live chat and in separate virtual consultation rooms. The moderator knows what is important:
“How do I enroll? What careers can I pursue later if I choose this degree programme? It’s very important to us that we’re able to answer all questions right away during these information sessions.”
”Studying in Every Situation
While studying at HSZG, students receive support in every situation. Whether they’re looking for social or academic assistance, need to meet specific requirements, or want to know how to spend a semester abroad or pursue continuing education, both information sessions provide answers. “Of course, campus life isn’t left out either, ” the moderator says with a smile.
New Location for Optimal Virtual Interaction
And there’s something new this time: On both days, HSZG will be broadcasting live from Celsiuz, one of the university’s transfer labs. The premises behind the old brick walls of the former textile mills in Zittau are home to the “Co-Creation Lab for Supply Infrastructure” of Saxony5, a technology transfer network of Saxony’s five universities of applied sciences. This is where bright minds from academia and industry typically gather to exchange ideas and collaborate on creative projects, supported by state-of-the-art simulation technology. “So it’s the perfect venue for two exciting college information evenings, ” says Victoria Hohlfeld.
