On Saturday, January 18, 35 students from various grades of regional schools took part in the Faculty W's Student University.
Shortly before 9 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, the first interested students arrived to secure the best places at the Faculty W's Student University, which began at 9:45 a.m..
Three exciting offers covering all degree programs at Faculty W awaited the pupils:
The offer "3D printing and insight into production and logistics" depicted essential contents of the Industrial Engineering and Management degree program. At the beginning, the students were able to listen to an informative taster lecture by Professor Keil on the topic of "Tasks and career opportunities in logistics as the DNA of the economy".
Afterwards, the students acquired knowledge of 3D printing, a sub-area of modern production and logistics, from the doctoral candidate Mr. Haack and Mr. Mühlan, an employee of Faculty W, and were able to apply this knowledge directly in a taster internship by modelling their own drawings for 3D printing using the Autodesk Inventor program.
As part of the offer "3D dream house planned by yourself" by Professor Worbs, Dean of Studies of Faculty W, and the laboratory engineer of the CAD and PC pools, Mr. Fallgatter, the students were able to get to know sub-areas of the Housing and Real Estate Management course. After a brief introduction to the software and the teaching of business and construction knowledge, they were able to create their own dream house using AutoCAD software. They were also able to directly apply the knowledge they had previously acquired in the design process, for example by selecting optimal materials and applying calculations for building insulation.
The "business simulation game" provided fundamental knowledge for the Business Administration course, but also for all other courses at Faculty W. At the beginning, the students were given an entertaining taster lecture on the framework conditions of economic activity, business contexts and the key to financial success. The students then took part in a competitive situation within several teams as fictitious companies, making decisions about goals and their implementation strategies in order to prove themselves as the best company on the market.
Teamwork plays an important role in any professional activity today. During their studies at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, students are therefore also taught social skills such as teamwork. This was demonstrated to the students using the team development game "Tower of Power" as part of the student university.
The next Student University will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at the Faculty of Management & Cultural Studies on the Görlitz campus on the topic of "How many languages does the economy need? ".
