Numerus Clausus
A selection procedure commonly referred to as "Numerus Clausus" is used for degree courses with restricted admission. Numerus clausus (from Latin numerus = "number" and clausus = "closed") refers to a limited number of study places in certain subjects at universities in Germany and is used synonymously with "admission restrictions" for access to a course of study at a university.
Admissions are awarded in a selection procedure according to the criteria of "grade" and "waiting time". From 2009, a further selection criterion (subject grade, professional qualification, ...) will be taken into account for approx. 60% of places in addition to the grade.
