About the degree program

At a time when the energy transition and climate protection are among the most pressing challenges, the Bachelor's degree in energy and environmental engineering will train you to become a key person in shaping our energy future. You will acquire sound specialist knowledge at the interface between engineering sciences, renewable energies and environmental engineering. With this interdisciplinary degree program, you will be ideally prepared to play an active role in shaping the transformation of energy systems.

Your skills for the energy transition

In this degree program, you will acquire skills that are crucial for a sustainable energy supply:

  • Development and optimization of systems for renewable energy generation
  • Designing innovative energy storage solutions for wind and solar energy
  • Planning efficient heat supply systems and power plant technology
  • Application of radiation technology in industry, medicine and research
  • Integration of decentralized energy systems into existing infrastructures

The course combines engineering fundamentals with specialized knowledge of renewable energies and environmental technologies. You not only learn the theoretical basics, but also apply your knowledge directly in practical projects and an internship semester. This combination of theory and practice will make you a sought-after specialist for the energy systems of the future.

You have the choice, design your studies.

With this degree course, you can choose between the regular Bachelor's degree course or the dual KIA (sandwich-style) degree course.

What is KIA?

The KIA (sandwich-style) degree course is very good for future students who want to combine theory and practice. In addition to theoretical specialist knowledge, you will also acquire practical vocational training and at the end of your studies you will not only receive a Bachelor's degree, but also a Chamber of Industry and Commerce certificate.

Course of study

Your studies are structured in such a way that you first acquire a solid foundation in engineering science before tackling the specific challenges of energy and environmental engineering. The first semesters therefore focus on basic subjects such as engineering mathematics, technical mechanics and thermodynamics. This foundation is supplemented by special subjects in energy and environmental engineering.

From the fourth semester onwards, your knowledge of renewable energy technology, power plant technology and radiation technology will deepen. You will deal with sustainable heat supply systems and learn how to optimize energy systems. You will spend the fifth semester in practice, where you can apply your theoretical knowledge in real projects. The course concludes with a scientific project and your Bachelor's thesis, in which you work on a specific problem in the field of energy and environmental engineering.
