Circular Economy

Resource-conserving and future-oriented: with research, teaching and regional pioneering role.

Circular Economy

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences combines research, teaching and practice in order to use resources more efficiently and develop new value chains. The focus is on projects that close material cycles, research sustainable raw materials and strengthen the region as a model area for the circular economy.

CIRCECON - Circular Economy Research Factory

Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is a partner in the large-scale CircEcon project, which is setting up a unique research factory for a climate-neutral circular economy in the Schwarze Pumpe industrial park. The HSZG's contribution lies in the development of practical technologies for automated dismantling, AI-supported sorting and thermal conversion of residual materials. In this way, the HSZG is not only strengthening the scientific basis, but also the regional structural change: from linear production to closed cycles that conserve resources and make Lausitz a model for sustainable industry.

LaNDER³ - Natural fibers for the circular economy

The Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences is leading the LaNDER³ research project, which processes regional biomass into innovative natural fiber composites - from fiber extraction to recycling. Together with industrial partners, the HSZG is developing sustainable materials for mobility, construction and filter technology. This strengthens the region's competitiveness and demonstrates how the circular economy works in practice.

Net Zero Valley Lausitz - Europe's first climate-neutral model region

Lausitz, home to Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, is applying to become Europe's first Net Zero Valley - a model region for climate-neutral technologies, sustainable production and international industry transfer.

The HSZG is involved as a scientific partner. It contributes its expertise in energy, the environment and sustainability and is involved in strategic processes and workshops for the development of the Valley. With its application-oriented research, it supports the transition to a circular economy and regional resilience.
