"Addiction and studies"

HSZG team launches data collection on the topic of "addiction and studying" among students at Saxon universities.

For a few days now, students at Saxon universities have been able to take part in a scientific study on the subject of "Addiction and studying". The project, funded by the Saxon State Ministry of Science and the Arts (SMWK) and led by Prof. Dr. Andreas Markert and Prof. Dr. Rudolf Schmitt, reconstructs the life and study situation of students in Saxony who use addictive substances and provides information on problem- and target group-related prevention and intervention approaches.

The study has a multi-stage structure. On the one hand, extensive document analyses on the general distribution and consumption of drugs in Saxony are carried out. Secondly, an online-based questionnaire, which was sent to all Saxon universities, is used to reconstruct possible connections between studying and addictions in a differentiated manner. The project's methodological approach is rounded off with expert interviews, according to Maria Schubert, the project's research assistant.

With this focus, the project is making an important contribution to university-wide health promotion, as a result of which positive effects on study behavior in our federal state can be expected in the medium term.

Students in Saxony have until June 30th to support the study by answering the questionnaire. The corresponding link has been sent out via the university mailing list. Anyone who has not yet received a link can contact Maria Schubert. All university members and other interested parties can also contact Ms. Schubert if they have any questions or suggestions about the project.
