"Addiction and studies"

A team from the HSZG is launching a data collection initiative on the topic of "Addiction and College" among students at universities in Saxony.

For the past few days, students at universities in Saxony have been able to participate in a research study on the topic of “Addiction and College Life.” Funded by the Saxon State Ministry of Science and the Arts (SMWK) and led by Prof. Dr. Andreas Markert and Prof. Dr. Rudolf Schmitt, reconstructs the living and academic situations of students who use addictive substances in Saxony and provides information about problem- and target-group-specific prevention and intervention approaches.

The study is designed in several stages. On the one hand, extensive document analyses are being conducted on the general prevalence and use of drugs in Saxony. Second, using an online questionnaire sent to all universities in Saxony, potential connections between academic studies and substance dependence are examined in a nuanced manner. The project’s methodological framework is rounded out by expert interviews, according to Maria Schubert, the project’s research assistant.

With this focus, the project makes an important contribution to university-wide health promotion, which is expected to have positive effects on student behavior in our state in the medium term.

Students in Saxony still have until June 30 to support the study by completing the questionnaire. The link has been sent via the university’s mailing list. Anyone who has not yet received a link can contact Maria Schubert. Likewise, all university members and other interested parties can contact Ms. Schubert if they have questions or suggestions regarding the project.

Event Announcement:

An event on this topic, titled “Crystal Clear,” will take place on June 22 at the Göritz campus.
