New approach to supporting the unemployed was presented at the largest conference on the topic of "Public Health".
Scientists from Görlitz and Dresden presented a new approach to supporting the unemployed at the largest conference on the topic of "Public Health" in Germany - the "Poverty and Health " congress in Berlin on March 18, 2016. Demographic change and its many facets, as well as current issues such as the challenges posed by refugees in Europe, are changing the regional and national labor market. Against this backdrop in particular, new and effective solutions are needed to get unemployed people back into work.
Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Matthias Schmidt, Professor of Organizational Psychology at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, has been researching the topic of "Work & Health" for several years. In addition to "too much" work, "too little" work makes people ill. This is why the working group is also investigating individual factors that influence a successful return to work. Coaching can be very effective here. The pilot project "Bridges - Bridges to Work " showed that unemployed people find their way back into working life in this way with an above-average integration rate of up to 59%. With the practical partner "WissensImpuls" from Dresden and the TU Dresden, the nationally established group training "AktivA - Active Coping with Unemployment" is combined with the findings on coaching for re-entry into employment. In this way, the proven topics of the group training can also be taught individually, in a so-called one-to-one setting, and personal support can be ensured.
At the "Poverty and Health" congress in Berlin, in addition to a presentation of the research results, the impact factors of coaching were discussed and initial methodological approaches from the program were presented.
