New brochure focuses on teaching at the HSZG and helps with orientation through the landscape of university didactics.
Recently, all lecturers at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences received the printed brochure "Impulses for Teaching Practice at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences". Just in time for the university's 25th anniversary, it portrays the core process of TEACHING from a university didactics perspective.
This brochure can help newly appointed professors to find their bearings. However, "old hands" and lecturers can also benefit, as the landscape of university didactics is full of numerous, sometimes new terms: competence-oriented teaching, shift from teaching to learning, flipped classroom, blended learning, e-assessment, soft skills, massive open online course and many more.
This already makes it clear that teaching does not stop at imparting sound subject-specific fundamentals, but that it should also be skills-oriented, motivating, inclusive, individualized and professionally qualifying. In addition, it is part of the standard of good teaching that students also acquire soft skills, e.g. learning strategies, time management and teamwork skills, which make studying easier and help them enter professional life.
Regular internal and external evaluation of teaching is just as much a part of a culture of quality in teaching as further training in higher education didactics for teaching staff.
