TÜV training courses at the HSZG

TÜV Rheinland Akademie GmbH and our university seal their cooperation.

The TÜV courses offered for years at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences to qualify students as environmental, occupational safety or energy management officers were placed on a new institutionalized basis at the start of the 2016 summer semester. Karin Hollstein, Chancellor of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, and Henry Schmidt, Sales Area Manager of the Central/Eastern Region of TÜV Rheinland Akademie GmbH, signed a cooperation agreement between the two institutions in February on the joint implementation of these training courses.

The cooperation is based on many years of collaboration between lecturers at the university, such as Prof. Dr. Rudolf Förster, Prof. Dr. Jana Brauweiler and Dipl.-Kff. Anke Zenker-Hoffmann and TÜV Rheinland Akademie GmbH.

"Prof. Förster started back in 1999 with courses for quality management officers. We "copied" the idea and launched a course for "Environmental Management Representative", and with the increasing importance of other management systems in companies, courses for "Representative for Occupational Health and Safety Management or Energy Management" were added",

Jana Brauweiler explains the development of the cooperation. The task of these officers is to take responsibility for the introduction, implementation and maintenance of the respective management system and to carry out a wide range of operational tasks independently. Participation in these courses is attractive for students, as the courses are offered at a fair special university price and students receive the "TÜV certificate", which is highly valued on the job market and sets them apart from competitors for jobs.

"This is particularly important when it comes to starting a career,"

Anke Zenker-Hoffmann from the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences can confirm.

"In the course of our cooperation to date, we have trained around 1,400 students from Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences and IHI Zittau to become management representatives. Of these, 882 students alone have become quality management officers"

Henry Schmidt summarizes the results of the collaboration.

"The integration of TÜV courses into the continuing education program at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences was long overdue,"

says Robert Viertel from the Center for Knowledge and Technology Transfer (ZWT) with a grin. He is delighted about the cooperation between the two strong institutions and with a view to the target group, he says:

"Scientific continuing education is a growing brand of the university and with these offers we are addressing our students as well as graduates and other interested parties from professional practice."

The demand from students for additional TÜV certificates continues unabated, as demonstrated by the courses on "Energy management systems in accordance with ISO 50001" and "Occupational health and safety management systems in accordance with OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001", which were completed in February and in which a total of 30 students from various faculties at Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences took part. The next courses " Environmental management systems in accordance with ISO 14001 and EMAS " and a further course "Energy management systems in accordance with ISO 50001" will be held in April/May 2016. New courses such as "Project Manager" and "IT Security Management" are also planned. The TÜV courses are advertised and organized by ZWT.
