Next Friday, eleven medium-sized companies from Zittau will once again be opening their doors and giving anyone interested the opportunity to take a look behind the factory walls and into production chains.
This year, the guided tours and plant visits at two of the eleven participating companies will be supplemented by a very special offer of talks:
At digades GmbH and Stadtwerke Zittau, visitors can find out first-hand everything they have always wanted to know about production processes and the day-to-day work of employees during the "Talk on site". In addition to moderators who will mediate and coordinate the talks, student assistants from the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences will also be on site. As experts in the important first steps towards a technical or scientific career, they will be able to answer any questions about suitable courses of study, application procedures and possible stumbling blocks on the way to a career.
In this sense, this event benefits everyone involved - the companies and the visitors. It is intended to show that Zittau, which is considered to be structurally weak, can certainly offer its young residents attractive career prospects with the numerous and successful medium-sized companies that are based here. The companies, on the other hand, have difficulties filling their apprenticeships and vacancies, partly because many potential candidates prefer to seek their fortune in structurally stronger areas.
The "Talk vor Ort" is intended to help remedy this discrepancy and the enormous shortage of skilled workers in the region. In addition to the opportunities to find out about careers, young visitors in particular will also have the chance to make important professional contacts during the talks in order to get their foot in the door - be it for an internship, apprenticeship or job.
Another reason for the lack of technically trained young people is misunderstandings about technical job profiles. In discussions with company employees and when exploring the various career paths, it quickly becomes clear that technical training does not necessarily only lead to the factory floor or only to the computer. On the contrary: the specialization options are many and varied.
Tony Zimmermann from Stadtwerke Zittau proves it. Starting out in the maintenance and servicing of district heating systems, he later switched to measurement, control and regulation technology. He is now busy planning, coordinating and expanding the network in Zittau. Tony is a trained mechatronics engineer for systems engineering.
