Conference on special needs education

On Friday, October 21, 2016, the annual conference “Diversity in Education and the Social Sciences” ( Jinost ve výchove a sociálních vedách) took place under this year’s theme “New Forms of Teaching in Special Needs Education” (Implementace nových forem výuky ve speciální pedagogice) organized by the Department of Social Studies and Special Education (Katedra sociálních studií a speciální pedagogiky) at the Technical University in Liberec, Czech Republic.

Associate Professor Dr. Petra Fuchs, Prof. Dr. Ingolf Prosetzky, and two students from the HSZG attended the event. Dr. Fuchs gave a presentation on the topic “Inclusive Commemoration of the Nazi Mass Murder of Patients—Educational Programs Developed by People with Learning Disabilities for the ‘Euthanasia’ Memorial in Brandenburg/Havel.”

Following the conference, the contacts established half a year ago with the Department of Social Studies and Special Education at the Technical University of Liberec were further strengthened. For next spring, the members of the working group agreed to make a joint visit to the “Euthanasia” Memorial in Pirna-Sonnenstein with a group of Czech and German students. The thematic focus will be on the question of possibilities and forms for the concrete implementation of inclusive education.
