Exchange project "Students For Exchange" at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Curative Education/Incl. Studies program
From 17.05. - 27.05.2016, two students and a lecturer from the University of Hlukhiv in eastern Ukraine were guests at our university.
Our "Students For Exchange" project group, consisting of three students of curative education/inclusion studies, organized and accompanied the stay in Germany as part of a study project. Our project was funded by the DAAD's Eastern Partnership Program.
In addition to taking part in various courses, we visited practical facilities in Görlitz and the surrounding area. For example, we visited the Initiative Görlitz e.V. day care center, the Schkola in Ostritz and a Caritas residential group in Görlitz. One afternoon, the Ukrainians gave a presentation on the social care structures in their country as part of an exchange forum and then discussed these with students.
In addition to an excursion with interested parties to the Landeskrone and a guided tour of the town hall tower in Görlitz, we also visited Dresden for two days. Sightseeing, an evening program in the new town and wheelchair training at InDD e.V. served as a supplement to job shadowing at "Plan B" of the Psychosozialer Trägerverein Sachsen and the GESOP residential home for people with mental illnesses.
During the entire time, two Ukrainian students from our university were on hand to volunteer as interpreters. Thanks to their commitment and the willingness of Görlitz students to let the Ukrainians stay with them privately, it was possible to create an impressive exchange for everyone. Many thanks to everyone involved! We are currently in the process of preparing the students' "return visit" to Hlukhiv, which will take place at the end of September 2016.
