Student advisory service starts new phase

Five new SbS teams begin their work after extensive interim evaluation.

Following a comprehensive interim evaluation with surveys, analyses and discussions as part of the student advisory service, the project was further developed conceptually at the end of the winter semester together with the student teams. The previous teams put together packages of measures for an innovative, sustainable and more effective student advisory service and project organization. This enables greater independence for the teams, which have been considered working groups of the Faculty Student Committees since this semester in accordance with their statutes and can therefore work directly in the faculties. In addition, all students were asked about their experiences with SbS and a comprehensive interim report was compiled.

Following the successful acquisition at the beginning of the 2015 summer semester, 48 new student advisors began their work. They are now the student contacts for questions, difficulties and help for incoming first semester students. In May, various workshops began at both campuses as part of the qualification measures, which - in addition to typical student problems and getting to know the support network inside and outside the university - also focused on advising and conducting discussions. Further workshops then dealt with the various tasks and topics of examinations, academic administration, student finance, counseling services and psychosocial counseling with the support of university staff and the Student Union.

In addition to the first introductory and networking meetings, the student teams are already planning the first offers as part of the pre-course weeks, for the introductory days and beyond. By the summer semester of 2015, over 150 students had already volunteered as student advisors. The project area has existed since May 2012 and is affiliated to the BMBF-funded project
