Award-winning student video project

A video project from the HSZG student program has a chance of winning the 2016 Media Education Award on December 1.

"That was a big surprise!" Robert Viertel, contact person at the HSZG for offers for pupils and schools, could hardly believe it when he learned that the video project as part of the university project "Studieren probieren" was nominated out of more than 60 projects for the 2016 Media Education Prize, which was awarded in Dresden on December 1.

"Being nominated is a special recognition of our project," says Robert Viertel. In cooperation with the Protestant Zinzendorf Schools in Herrnhut, pupils created video podcasts about the science courses at the HSZG this spring as part of an innovative school project. "During the project, the pupils not only learned about chemistry and physics, but were also able to try their hand at camera work," recalls Robert Viertel.

Here you can see an overview of the student video podcasts:

The videos were made by 23 Year 10 pupils from the Evangelisches Zinzendorf-Gymnasium Herrnhut. They were given access to some of the university's laboratories for the shoot. They were supervised by the Saxon Training and Testing Channel Görlitz (SAEK).

Now it's time to keep their fingers crossed, because the nomination not only means recognition, but also the chance to win in one of 4 categories in which a total of 8 main prizes are awarded. The decision will be announced at today's awards ceremony at the Schauburg Filmtheater in Dresden.

The Media Education Prize 2016 is awarded by the Saxon State Authority for Private Broadcasting and New Media (SLM) and the Saxon State Ministry of Culture (SMK). The competition honors the best Saxon media literacy projects with children, young people and adults as well as the special topic: "Stranger Neighbor!".
