Polish pupils experiment on themselves

18 vocational school students were able to see the versatility of the HSZG for themselves as part of a project.

On September 27, 2017, 18 vocational school students from the Technikum in Krosno Odrzańskie (Crossen a. d. Oder) visited the Zittau campus. This visit took place as part of the "Healthy School and Qualification" project , which is currently being carried out at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Thanks to the dedicated preparation by Christiane Matthieu (ZWT), the students and their two teachers were able to spend a varied and interesting day at the university. After a short introduction, two groups were formed, which took turns visiting the various laboratories.

Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Matthias Herrmann (Study Scout Faculty M) gave them a brief overview of the possibilities of studying at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Dipl.-Ing (FH) Ralph Heidrich then gave a demonstration of the iCIM FESTO Didactic system. This system can be used for professional interdisciplinary CIM training, as it enables professional planning and engineering by means of coordinated software. In the production metrology laboratory of Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Wolfgang Meinck, the students learned about various measuring methods for machine components - from the traditional caliper gauge to the use of a 3D coordinate measuring machine DEA "Global Advantage 7/7/5" - and were able to try them out for themselves.

At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, the young people were given an insight into the programming of sensor-supported robots. Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Egmont Schreiter explained how the sensors work and how the students at the faculty work together on various work and research projects during the course of their studies. It was particularly interesting to see how it is possible to control such a robot with your own smartphone thanks to appropriate programming and the Internet. Dipl.-Ing. Sebastian Fleischer introduced the young people to the first topics of automation technology. How industrial plants are controlled and what is needed for this. Here, too, the use of smartphones and tablet PCs is becoming more and more common.

Finally, Henriette Uhlig (Dept. of Studies and International Affairs) gave some general information about studying abroad and the various offers from the university so that every student feels comfortable and does not get too homesick. Kazimierz Przybysz, a student at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Engineering, told his fellow countrymen about his own experiences and pointed out in particular that a good knowledge of German is very important alongside an interest in the subject matter.
