The five-day "Communication" Summer School took place at the end of August at Dom Parada in the Polish Giant Mountains.
The main topics of the Engineering Pedagogical Training (IPWB) for teachers were body language and voice as well as counseling and coaching.
Body language and voice
Together with lecturer Daniela Schober, who has over ten years of experience on stage and in front of television cameras and works as a trainer and consultant for managers, the participants developed various techniques for "speaking well".
We learned to breathe consciously and economically and to sensitize our own body awareness in order to prevent stress and remain calm in presentation and teaching situations.
Advice and coaching
Together with Jörg Heidig, we tried out different consulting situations as well as working techniques for goal-oriented discussions, for example by asking solution-oriented questions. Jörg Heidig is a qualified communication psychologist, didactics specialist and lecturer in practical psychological subjects.
During the group hike, the group was able to prove itself as a team with group dynamic elements. One participant struggled with the material fatigue of his hiking boots, but this was counteracted by the creativity of the participants and randomly available materials.
The "Communication" summer school is part of the IPWB for teaching staff, which aims to further develop the engineering didactic skills of our university staff in the STEM faculties. This further education program was created for this purpose, which is designed according to the specifications of the Ingenieurpädagogische Wissensgesellschaft Berlin and is carried out in cooperation with the Institute for Vocational Education at the Technical University of Dresden. The IPWB for teachers is organized by the Macro Properties/Match 3 (MM3) project of the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences Career Service. The next engineering pedagogical training for teachers is expected to take place from December 2018 to February 2020.
