On April 27, 2015, GÜSA e.V., with the support of Interclub Femina and the Polish Regional Youth Council Zgorzelec, offered various educational institutions from Görlitz the opportunity to hold a joint information event. Representatives of the Dietrich Heise School, the DPFA-Schulen gGmbH, the Augustum-Annen-Gymnasium and the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences provided information about school, vocational and academic education opportunities for Polish children and young people as well as young adults from Zgorzelec and the surrounding area.
In this context, Mr. Andrzej Dmytruk, a student of the
Business and Languages course
There was a particular lack of information regarding the language skills required before starting studies in Germany, and many of the parents and students present wanted the information available on the Internet regarding language requirements to be expanded - good, easy to find and in Polish! The reason for this is obvious: as students' Polish families start thinking about their professional careers several years before their Polish Abitur, the admission information should also be easy to find and understand for parents without any knowledge of German in order to enable them to plan their children's language education in the long term. This is the only way they can provide their children with targeted support. This wish will now be implemented by Dr. Ewa Wieszczeczyńska, a lecturer on the Business and Languages course, together with students and graduates of the Studienkolleg.
To overcome the mental and cultural hurdle, Mr. Dmytruk - true to the motto "Student advises future students" - shared his facebook data with the Polish parents on their way home!
With regard to the language preparation of high school graduates from Zgorzelec and the surrounding area, the initiation of a special class with extended German lessons is planned, which will be actively supported by colleagues from the Business and Languages degree program, so that proof of German language skills necessary for studying could be acquired parallel to the Abitur.
