Since this week, around 180 first-year students have been getting their first taste of university life before the actual start of the winter semester. The "come-in weeks" with preparatory courses in math, chemistry and electrical engineering give our first-year students the opportunity to test and refresh their knowledge of these important subjects. An extensive additional program is designed to help them get to know their fellow students and the university location with its many opportunities. The whole thing was organized by the MINT Centre and the SBS team (students advise students) as part of the "Diversity as strength" project. They are supported by committed students from the Faculty Student Committees and the Student Council.
In addition to laboratory visits, excursions and campus tours, the program also includes a joint barbecue, games to get to know each other and exciting city tours through Zittau. Immediately after the first math lecture, a wide range of information was available for our "first-timers". They received initial advice on the support available from the STEM team, the "campus specialists" and the "Students advise students" project, as well as from the FSRs and the Stura.
In a relaxed atmosphere, all participants gladly accepted this over coffee and cake. Felix from Lörrach certainly spoke for many: "I feel very welcome here and am particularly impressed by the teaching style of math lecturer Prof. Dierich and his motivation."
