Getting to know another life

Rector Professor Dr. Friedrich Albrecht and Vice President Professor Dr. Christa Heidger presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Carsten Rensinghoff of Witten an der Ruhr for his active support of the Kinder Academy at the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences. In his presentation, the children learned about the lives of people with disabilities. The speaker’s own physical disability serves as an excellent example of this. Now 48 years old, he suffered a severe brain injury at the age of 12 after being struck by a car while roller skating.

The children were also able to experience disability firsthand. To this end, Dr. Rensinghoff presented optical illusions, for example. In the jumbled letters of a word, the children could only recognize the correct word because the first and last letters of each word were correct.

Author and lecturer Dr. Carsten Rensinghoff held teaching positions at the Faculty of Social Sciences and in the Studium Fundamentale program during the 2017–2018 winter semester. “Experiencing Disability” will be the topic of his course offered to students from all faculties in the Studium Fundamentale program.
