A different kind of library introduction

The introduction to the library and university computer center usually takes place as part of the introduction days for new students in the form of a lecture in the lecture hall. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science has been offering a different approach for the past two years.

A new format was developed for students in their first semester in collaboration between the "Learning to learn 2" project and Rolf Funke from the university library in Zittau (HSB). Practice-oriented instruction was organized directly in the HSB. This year, a comprehensive concept was successfully tested. Our students were given a choice of various scientific topics. Research on the topics was carried out under supervision on the computers and in the HSB's book collection. Afterwards, various methods for presenting scientific content were practiced during the presentation of the results. 

A newly designed handout with general information about the HSB, group study rooms and the lending process should help the students to quickly familiarize themselves with the use of the library's technical facilities in the future.
