A different kind of library introduction

Usually, the introduction to the library and University Data Centre takes place as part of the induction days for new students in the form of a lecture in the lecture hall. For the past two years, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science' has been offering a different approach.

A new format was developed for first semester students in cooperation between the "Learning to Learn 2" project and Rolf Funke from the University Library in Zittau (HSB). Practice-oriented instruction was organized directly in the HSB. This year, a comprehensive concept was successfully tested. Our students were given a choice of various scientific topics. Research on the topics was carried out under supervision on the computers and in the HSB's book collection. Afterwards, various methods for presenting scientific content were practiced during the presentation of the results.

A newly designed handout with general information about the HSB, group study rooms and the lending process is intended to help users quickly familiarize themselves with the library's technical facilities in the future.
