4th MINT project week

26 Year 8 pupils spent 4 days researching at the HSZG.

The mathematics and science project week of the 8th grade of the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Löbau at the Zittau-Görlitz University of Applied Sciences took place for the fourth time this year from September 12 to 16 in Zittau and Görlitz.

This year, the 26 pupils worked diligently on twelve project topics in the HSZG laboratories. They formed teams of two and spent four days working on a project topic in the participating university laboratories. On the final day, Friday, September 16, each team presented the technical results of the topic to teachers, representatives of the university, parents and students in the AGORA of the Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium Löbau. These impressive final presentations showed the great commitment of the students, who have just entered grade 8 and are taking their first steps in scientific work in the project. The best poster and the best presentation were then awarded prizes.

The pupils in this year's Year 8/5 also demonstrate the potential of this form of support for talented and interested young mathematicians and scientists in their lessons, in their participation in various competitions and in their overall appearance at the grammar school.

This year, the colleagues at the university offered the following project tasks to the curious pupils:

  • "All that glitters is not gold - hard metal coating in a vacuum process", Faculty of Mechanical Engineering / Institute of Surface Technology (IOT),
  • "Watercourse investigations on the Grundbach, Faculty: Natural and Environmental Sciences,
  • "Raw milk. Skimmed curd, cream, kefir or just curd?", Institute for Process Development, Peat and Natural Product Research (iTN),
  • "Natural and synthetic dyes, Faculty: Natural and Environmental Sciences,
  • "Wir programmieren Speile mit Scratch", Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Department of Computer Science,
  • "Build your own wind tunnel - , Faculty of Mechanical Engineering / Fluid Mechanics and Machines,
  • "The noble gas radon - how does it get into my house?", Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Center for Knowledge and Technology Transfer (ZWT) / Energy Technology Cabinet (ETK),
  • "How much energy does a house need?", Faculty of Business, Economics and Engineering, Building Physics and Air Conditioning Laboratory,
  • "Investigations into discharges and the breakdown behavior of air insulation, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science / Electrical Power Engineering,
