In warm late summer weather, the Hi!Lusatia science festival on September 20, 2025 attracted numerous guests from Görlitz, Zgorzelec and the region. Under the motto "oha! Science Adventure", Postplatz was transformed into a lively place of research, amazement and experimentation.
Visitors were able to get active themselves at the mobile learning space, the "Airlab": Children, young people and adults were able to experiment with the 3D printer and laser cutter, control robot cars or familiarize themselves with state-of-the-art technology. The stand was supervised by Robert Viertel and his team, who invited guests to actively try things out.
Scientific projects at the university were also presented: Professor Fester presented the hand root project of the junior research group at ZIRKON, which was met with great interest. The stand also invited visitors to get into conversation and find out more about the courses on offer and the wide range of opportunities at the HSZG.
The science festival was part of a colorful city weekend that ranged from the Jakobstraßenfest to the Mobility Mile and Postplatz to the family festival organized by the Görlitz Local Alliance for Families. Together, the various activities transformed the city center into a place full of discoveries, encounters and a good atmosphere.
The popular rally for children was very popular, with young explorers collecting stamps at various stations and winning great prizes. Many children enthusiastically mastered all the tasks and experienced science in a fun way.
With the combination of family festival, strolling, science and mobility mile, we have set a strong signal for cohesion, neighborhood and living together.
The science festival was organized by Hi!Lusatia e.V. together with Sächsische Agentur für Strukturentwicklung GmbH and supported by numerous partners. These included research institutions, companies and universities from the entire region.
For the Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences, the event provided a valuable opportunity to bring science to life and enter into dialog with people from the region. The event provided practical insights into research and teaching and helped to strengthen interest in scientific topics in the long term.
